Metra's STAR Line
| The team of Smith Engineering Consultants, Inc., Soodan & Associates, Inc., DMJM+Harris, and Parsons Brinkerhoff was selected to develop a feasibility study to determine if a vibrant intra-suburban commuter passenger service is viable between Joliet, Illinois and Chicago’s Midway Airport via O’Hare International Airport. The study considered alignments that would provide connecting points to three existing commuter lines that provide approximately 30 million annual passenger trips; create an alternate means of transportation for approximately 1.2 million automobile users; and create commuter rail access to Chicago’s Midway Airport and to O’Hare International Airport, the economic engine of the region. Soodan provided professional services for the required stations and structures including location maps, photographs of existing conditions, site layouts for stations and parking facilities, topographic maps, flood plain data, wetland data, block layouts and renderings of ground level and elevated commuter stations, and opinions of probable cost for the numerous stations and structures. Weekly coordination meetings were held with the team and monthly progress meetings were held with the client. The Feasibility Study was completed on time and within budget. |
